“Spin”

Illustration Friday Spin ©2015 alecia goodman to present

This week’s Illustration Friday topic is “Spin”. Recently I participated in a Winter Exchange and my giftee proposed the idea of coffee art as something I could do. I hadn’t done one before so I created this coffee art, a spin on coffee paintings. This was done in sepia ink on white Canson Tientes pastel paper. I was nervous about this one since its not your typical coffee paintings but I think my giftee liked it.

Not Knitting… CAL #3

I participated in another CAL last fall through  A Crocheted Simplicity‘s event. I picked two gorgeous patterns to do, but ran out of time and only completed one. The Purl Illusions Slouch, I used Red Heart Boutique Unforgettable in Polo… it is gorgeous. Don’t be afraid of Unforgettable, it is froggable as long as you take your time and go slowly. Luckily I didn’t have an issue and didn’t have to frog or rip out. Its a beautiful yarn and this is possibly my favorite colorway of Unforgettable.

This is a beautiful hat, the pattern is really easy to follow though the finished hat looks extremely complicated it really isn’t. I’m looking forward to making more of these. I am wondering how it would look using some Knit Picks Chroma.

Jumping In Head First, #2 CAL

For the second CAL, or Crochet-A-Long I actually made 3 items… 2 of the Little Textures Beanies (using Simply Soft and a special clearance yarn I found at Hobby Lobby), and the Bonnie Bell Cowl (using Aurora Borealis yarn), patterns by Two Brothers Blankets. Again I played with color and texture. I loved how my son’s blue hat turned out, the blues really make his blue eyes vibrant. I was worried about the red not being my color, but the pictures were awesome. It was a whirl wind of trying to get it all done in a small amount of time, but they worked up quickly.

All about the “G”

Recently I participated in an gift exchange. My giftee, has a special area of her home called her g spot. The wall has many different Gs. This is what I created specifically for her. I plan on making more for my own home and for my family too.

I recently worked on a rather unique t-shirt graphic for a friend. While talking about it on the phone I came up with a sketch which later morphed into the t-shirt graphic. They were looking for a t-shirt design that they could wear at running/obstacle events. I can’t wait to see how it looks on a t-shirt. What do you think?

Heart Break Charlie, Strong Bond of Family

Not too long ago I had a blonde haired blue eyed baby boy. We went to a play group at the local hospital here. We met some wonderful moms and dads… making many friends for life. One of these moms, Sarah, let me be part of a super secret Christmas present for her husband. It was a portrait of their fur baby Charlie, a beautiful lab and so sweet too. I finished the portrait and was ready to ship it to her as they had moved, miss them terribly. I was heart broken and sad to find out Charlie wasn’t doing very well at all. As requested I held on to the portrait for an additional week while the family said their good byes. Thank you for letting me create this portrait for you. Media gray paper and charcoal pencil

I submitted this to Illustration Friday for the category of “Strong”. I believe there are strong bonds of family between friends and fur babies.

Remembering Cole, RIP

My dear friend had to say good bye to her fur baby Cole yesterday. My heart aches for her, he was such a sweet lovable dog. Thankful I was able to create this beautiful portrait.

Moving Pains & the Little Big Project

Recently we moved house… not something I recommend for the faint of heart. I love our new house and I also have my very own room for my studio with a view. Its wonderful. Right before the move I was commissioned for a challenging project. 2 dogs on a 8 x 10, black and white charcoal. It was tricky as the original photograph was low resolution. The portrait was a surprise so I have had to keep this one on the down low until it was revealed. It turned out amazing and I am so thrilled that my customers loved it especially since it was for someone I have known all my life. I will work on posting from beginning to finish so that you can see the process. What do you think of Sugar Babe and Bentley?

Down the Pipes

Here is the t-shirt graphic I worked on recently. Although it turned out brilliantly and the customer loved it… it just wasn’t appropriate for them.

Marco Polo, Found You Cole

And here we go… As long as my customer loves this it is finished. I had a difficult time figuring out the right amount of detail, color (muted versus not), and how much to include of the sofa over all to not take away from Cole. He is just too beautiful, did not want to destroy the focal point with too much background. What do you think?
