“Buck”, portrait update 1 ©2016 alecia goodman to present
Getting started on this adorable puppy Buck… thinking it’s a good start, now just to plow through.
Not too long ago I had a blonde haired blue eyed baby boy. We went to a play group at the local hospital here. We met some wonderful moms and dads… making many friends for life. One of these moms, Sarah, let me be part of a super secret Christmas present for her husband. It was a portrait of their fur baby Charlie, a beautiful lab and so sweet too. I finished the portrait and was ready to ship it to her as they had moved, miss them terribly. I was heart broken and sad to find out Charlie wasn’t doing very well at all. As requested I held on to the portrait for an additional week while the family said their good byes. Thank you for letting me create this portrait for you. Media gray paper and charcoal pencil
I submitted this to Illustration Friday for the category of “Strong”. I believe there are strong bonds of family between friends and fur babies.
Recently we moved house… not something I recommend for the faint of heart. I love our new house and I also have my very own room for my studio with a view. Its wonderful. Right before the move I was commissioned for a challenging project. 2 dogs on a 8 x 10, black and white charcoal. It was tricky as the original photograph was low resolution. The portrait was a surprise so I have had to keep this one on the down low until it was revealed. It turned out amazing and I am so thrilled that my customers loved it especially since it was for someone I have known all my life. I will work on posting from beginning to finish so that you can see the process. What do you think of Sugar Babe and Bentley?
Here update #4 for Mubusu, two year old chimpanzee at our local zoo, he is still coming along at a slower pace than I would like. I want apologize for how long this is taking. I have been struggling with issues from my hand injury from the car accident a year ago or so. And more graphic design and yarn commissions (Ewoks, Houndstooth, Slouchies).
On other fronts keep your eye out for some more furry friend portraits another fluffy kitty and two dogs. YEAH!!!
Its been quite a busy summer, with trips, and commissions (mainly graphic design and hats). I finally emerged from my metaphorical rabbit hole and to find my drawing board, which I sorely missed. Here is the latest update for Mubusu, two year old chimpanzee, it is coming along though I wish it was faster. He is still up to a toddler’s antics, I am lucky enough to visit him regularly. Since its been a while I hope that I am still working the same on the piece as earlier in the project.
The Genus for a Chimpanzee is Pan. Which is also the name for the mythic faerie figure who protects nature most often pictured playing a flute.
I am making some progress. His personality is really starting to come through.
This cute little guy is about 2, my monkey and him see to have a lot in common. I have been so busy haven’t done a personal piece for a bit unless you call P.G. personal since it was a gift. I have started this little guy 4 times though. I was really excited about some Derwent Tinted Charcoal I picked up this week. So far I am not thrilled with it hence the 3 previous drawings. Sad I know, so to keep a possible artist’s block from hitting me square in the face I am moving on to charcoal, Generals (the orange ones). I have another idea for this chimpanzee, pastels hmmm… we will have to see when I can work that one in.
Here’s my start, the fourth one… hope to get more done tonight.
Its been a crazy week. I have barely had time to work on my current project til today. I am still excited at where its going. I have to say this drawing is the highlight to my week and of course my new sewing machine. I am still struggling with soft pencils and my sharpener, I think it is sanding one side down more than another… not exactly sure why. So hoping I won’t be needing a new one. If anyone has suggestions it would be much appreciated. I feel like crying when I lose a pencil due to faulty equipment—just so frustrating.
The low note, bracket-wise Wichita State lost…. Sad to say the least. And even Kansas State lost today. The upsets are making things interesting (with so many #2s losing out).
Hope I get some more drawing time in tomorrow.
