Wizened Age

Old man father time ink drawing by Alecia Goodman

Age equals more hair to shave. His hair, eyebrows,  and beard are more than overgrown. Although his appearance may be wizened with the years he’s accumulated his life begins anew with every new birth. For he is known throughout the eons as Father Time. #Inktober #Inktober2019 #overgrown #InktoberDay14 #fathertime #hair #beard

Smoking Ash

“Hmmm … I have a brilliant idea. Here hold this.” The smile and eyes remind me of my brother and his wild ideas. Then again I may have done some of my own antics. Luckily we missed out on the Victorian age and child labor. It makes me think of Mary Poppins … a nice story, though it tends to glamorize the idea of chimney sweeps. I imagine that soot and ash were caked on their bodies and clothes. Sadly built up in their lungs too. #Inktober #Inktober2019 #InktoberDay13 #ash #chimneysweep #boy #victorian #drawing

Walking “Fido”

Ink drawing of a girl and dragon by Alecia Goodman

There’s two possible stories to go with this one. Maybe this innocent and naive girl took her dog for a walk. She is too busy daydreaming to realize her dog has been eaten and she’s leading a dragon. I think I like the second story best. What if she has her very own pet dragon and takes her precious Fido on walks. Think of all their amazing adventures and how tricky it would be to take care of such a giant beastie. Which story direction do you like better? #Inktober #Inktober2019 #dragon #fido #walk #InktoberDay12 #ink #drawing

Bee Comb

What’s in a pattern? Repeats of similar shapes especially in fabric and wallpapers. Nature does have patterns too. They are bold and beautiful though at times fragile like the existence of the bees. #Inktober #Inktober2019 #pattern #bee #honeycomb #nature

Athena Enchanted

Ink drawing woman wearing owl headdress by Alecia Goodman

So many ideas for “Enchanted” Inktober Day 7- fantasy, folklore, and mythology. I’ve always loved drawing women and owls. Thinking about mythology and goddess, Athena embodies strength and beauty. Her weapon is her intelligence … her mind, more beautiful than flesh. I’m thinking of writing a short story specifically for each drawing once Inktober is over for this year. #Inktober #Inktober2019 #enchanted #woman #owl #drawing #ink

Pesky Crabs

For this one I looked at plus sized models and pin ups like Hilda by Duane Bryers. I wanted to show that as women we are all beautiful no matter our size. We don’t  come in the same sized package, much like all of our personalities and experiences are all different.  Women battle their curves when I think more often than not we need to love our bodies and be more accepting. I am no different, growing up with the mindset of being big boned. I may be curvy,  but I’m comfortable in my skin. I’m not fat and hope the world sees my strength and my beauty. #Inktober #Inktober2019 #husky #art #ink #drawing

Build

I know this one puts me a bit behind. I wanted to do something reminiscent of Rosie the Riveter, a direct contrast with the usual mechanic visage. She’s eyeing the cogs of the machinery just daring it to have an issue. #Inktober #Inktober2019 #build #drawing #ink

Freeze!

Ink drawing of woman holding gun by Alecia Goodman

I thought about doing the obvious like ice, snow, Mr. Freeze, Jack Frost or even Elsa. All great ideas … but for some reason just wasn’t what I wanted to draw. Then I realized what happens when you yell freeze. Spies, police, military and even kids playing freeze tag. She’s in the process of bringing up her other hand to help steady the gun. #Inktober #Inktober2019 #freeze #ink

Huntress “Bait”

Inktober day 3 drawing of a woman as Bait for Kraken by Alecia Goodman

Have you ever heard of Perseus and  Andromeda’s story? Basically he has to go on a quest, battle beasts, and rescue the damsel or the princess from being sacrificed to the Kraken. I wanted to approach this one as illustrating a strong, brave and defiant heroine. So what if instead of the usual damsel  in distress Andromeda was really the huntress? Yes, she may be manacled, but it may just be an illusion. The heroine is using herself as bait and taking the Kraken head on. I personally would want to have her defiant character and bravery while confronting a monster. Could you say the same for yourself? #Inktober #Inktober2019 #bait

Mindless

Ink drawing Man listening to music by Alecia Goodman

I had to really think about this one. In our house most of the time you are fully absorbed in a book. Every once in a while to relax though I escape into music … completely mindless from my surroundings.  #Inktober #Inktober2019 #mindless
