Popularity, Wallflowers, and Beauty…

"Dakota", portrait update ©2012 alecia goodman to present

“Popularity” Illustration Friday’s topic this week. I know this post is truly stretching to fit the parameters, but I just finished this beautiful portrait and wanted to share it (We’ll have to see if the client agrees). Popularity I think this is possibly every preteen, teenage boy’s and girl’s challenge. Always feeling that they are the wallflower and trying to make it into the spotlight. I think with age comes the wisdom to realize popularity is not truly that important, its the beauty inside that matters. Being comfortable with yourself and liking yourself, I think is a challenge for everyone at any age. Dakota is a beautiful dog, I am hoping that I just provided a glimpse of her personality and the beauty it holds.

Wow, so adorable. With that intent look in her eye, I believe there is something she would like to pounce on nearby (alternatively, she is about to fall asleep). The fur is totally amazing. I wondered if this was the same artist as the boxer (I am trying to keep track of the blogs I have been visiting), and sure enough, there is Zeus down the page. Terrific dogs, all of them!

I love the way you drew the fur. Fantastic!

I think you have done a great job of capturing this dog’s unique beauty. I see quite a few people struggle with feeling beauty. I used to work for a company shooting large parties and it would haunt me that people could smile so nicely for a snapshot and right afterwards have a haunting expression come over them. Something I never noticed until I worked for said photography company.

Popularity is such a mist, here one day and gone the next!

Well, I for one find this a MARVELOUS portrait! I’m usually not that thrilled with “dog pictures” unless they are very doggie, but this one is fabulous.

And it is indeed a rare young person who is immune to the allure of popularity.

I love the deepness in the fur. What’s the size of your paper? Your lines are so thin! The work is really impressive.
